Team Overview

The Finance, IT & Procurement Department builds relationships and systems to protect the financial integrity, technical infrastructure, and information security of our organization, while ensuring the right resource or experience is delivered to teachers without delay. You’ll help deliver on the core mission of our organization by leveraging best-in-class fulfillment and customer service practices to ensure that materials get to the right place at the right time.

Within the Procurement team, the Direct Fulfillment subteam manages relationships with a growing roster of small and midsize companies. This new shopping choice for DonorsChoose projects is fully managed by the Direct Fulfillment team. For the first time in org history, an internal DonorsChoose team is bulk purchasing select products in advance, managing warehouse inventory, and fulfilling orders directly to our teachers.

The DonorsChoose Featured Favorites store showcases products from 30+ BIMPOC-owned businesses and creators, which allows DonorsChoose teachers to easily shop and direct their project spending to support a more diverse range of suppliers.

About the Role

In this role, you’ll be a core part of running this new fulfillment pathway and supporting process transitions for long-term viability. You’ll synthesize information from internal and external sources and translate it into recommendations for actionable changes and improvements this school year. You’ll work to solidify Direct Fulfillment as a durable and resilient model expansion providing a carefully, curated selection of in-stock resources for DonorsChoose teachers.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Ensure our teachers’ shopping and fulfillment experiences flow smoothly
    • Monitor and oversee daily support of end-to-end order processing requirements for Direct Fulfillment, including project management for purchasing and receiving resources 
      • Direct daily tasks of one Specialist who’ll provide frontline support   
      • Manage all inventory resources ordered from suppliers and processed at our 3P logistics provider(s) with consideration of costs and time-sensitive priorities
      • Maintain accurate inventory and financial records – e.g. details on pricing, supplier and logistics provider performance, delivery metrics
  • Drive efficient growth of this new shopping pathway for our teachers
    • Collaborate across internal and external teams independently, including ongoing work with Finance, Operations, and Community Growth & Impact colleagues 
    • Identify trends and opportunities to streamline processes and improve stakeholder experiences as we scale Direct Fulfillment
      • Utilize an array of sources to develop data-driven recommendations 
  • Support learning and exploration as we build a long-term structure
    • Contribute toward our team’s strategic development, key performance indicators, and FY23 experiment design and execution
    • Improve system resilience and durability as we scale toward a long-term, financially viable model

  • Strong speaking, writing, interpersonal, and presentation skills
    • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and build strong relationships - account management experience a plus
  •  2+ years of experience in a relationship building, operational, or data-centric role

Compensation and Benefits

Our compensation philosophy ensures that we are both externally competitive with tech-forward nonprofits of a similar size and internally fair in our pay practices. The following ranges represent the target offer range given the scope and experience expectations for this role. 

  • The hiring salary range for this role is $43,000 - $52,000
  • We have a hiring salary range of $49,000 - $58,000 for specific higher cost of labor locations, which include New York City, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Seattle, Boston, and Washington, D.C. 

Once employees are hired, the salary range for their role increases to ensure that employees are able to receive performance-based raises and grow in their role. 

We are open to a variety of experiences, and recognize that the person we hire may be less experienced or more senior than this job description as posted. If that’s the case, an updated salary range will be shared with candidates if they move forward in our hiring process.

In addition, we offer full-time staff 25 paid vacation days per year and 11 paid holidays, a rich employer-paid individual and family health plan, a matching 401(k) plan (up to 5% of base salary), annual professional development stipend, and casual and flexible work environment. Hybrid Workplace and Other Details

In this role, you’ll have the option to work a flexible hybrid schedule in our NYC office, or to work fully remotely from CA, DC, FL, GA, IL, IN, MD, MI, NJ, NY, OR, PA, TX, or WI. 

Candidates who are not in the NYC area should expect to travel to our NYC office on as-needed basis, about 4-6 times per year. All work-related travel expenses will be covered by the organization and proper safety precautions will be taken to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
