Role Overview: 

Boom is seeking someone to join our expert team of software engineers, building the tools to support Boom's engineers and employees.  You must deeply enjoy working side-by-side with your users and picking up whatever tools & technologies will best suit the team's current needs.

A Web Frontend Software Engineer at Boom means connecting end users with complex systems through an easy to use experience. Web frontends at Boom are built to be responsive, look great on a wide array of popular user devices, and design with performance always in mind. To be successful in this role one must have broad experience with different kinds of web technologies and match the best tools with new projects as they come up. A love of aviation is always helpful, as you’ll be immersed in a team working to make supersonic travel for the general public a reality. A typical day will include hands-on coding, working with in-house users, mentoring others on frontend technologies, and collaborating with other software engineers working with varied technologies.



  • Professional experience building and shipping web frontends to large diverse populations of user devices. We find strong candidates for this role usually have 10+ years of experience
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science (or equivalent)
  • Experience with multiple programming languages / environments (JavaScript, TypeScript, Python & bash preferred)
  • Extensive experience building responsive, mobile-first web layouts (SCSS, SASS, or similar preferred)
  • Experience with mainstream frontend frameworks (Vue.js preferred and other experience valuable as well)
  • Experience connecting to distributed information sources (RESTful, gPRC, WebSocket, etc.)
  • Familiarity incorporating user authentication and managing credentials for connecting to remote services
  • Exposure to SQL databases, programmatic interfaces, and processing large result sets
  • Experienced working on Linux command line (CLI) to manage/debug servers hosting web applications
  • Great collaboration with end users and fellow software engineers
  • Experience mentoring more junior engineers
  • Familiar with structured, collaborative software development environments (source code control, peer reviews, team oriented software development process)
  • Technical curiosity and willingness to explore beyond your previous experience
  • Eagerness to dive deep into the aerospace industry and understand its terminology, nuances, and methods in order to help users

Additional Qualifications:

  • Experience running large distributed, auto-scaling software architectures in cloud environments  (AWS EC2 or Docker orchestration)
  • Familiarity with zero downtime operational upgrades of your sites
  • Unit level and end-to-end frontend testing best practices and methodologies, integrated with a CI/CD pipeline
  • Experience with web accessibility standards and best practices for implementation
  • Web frontend engineers are encouraged at Boom to be curious about the backend code they connect to and may submit backend pull requests (Python, Golang, etc.)
  • Familiarity with distributed caching of web static assets to enhance end user experience
  • A GitHub account with examples of your work



The Base Salary Range for this position is $132,000-$155,000 and represents the low and high end of the range for this position. Actual salaries will vary based on factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of Boom’s total rewards package for employees. Other rewards may include performance bonuses, long term incentives/equity, an open PTO policy, and many other progressive benefits.
