DonorsChoose makes it easy for anyone to help a teacher in need, moving us closer to a nation where students in every community have the tools and experiences they need for a great education.

Since 2000, more than 5 million people and partners have contributed $1 billion to support 2 million teacher requests for classroom resources and experiences. Projects range from art supplies to build the set for a school musical, to books and puzzles that affirm students’ identities, to bird seed for an at-home science project. We proudly serve all US public schools, public charter schools, and Head Start centers, and we combat systemic inequity by driving a majority of donations to schools that have been historically underfunded due to economic and racial inequity.

DonorsChoose has been recognized as a best place to work by GOOD Magazine and the Nonprofit Times, while Fast Company named DonorsChoose one of the 50 Most Innovative Companies in the World—the first time a charity has made this list. Our dedicated team works from across the United States bring classroom dreams to life.

About the Teacher & Donor Marketing Team

The Marketing & Community team is responsible for rallying individual donors to support public school classrooms, with a goal this school year of encouraging more than 650K individuals to give $90M towards classroom resources for teachers.

Housed within the larger M&C team, the Teacher & Donor Marketing team is responsible for listening to and advocating for user needs, building and managing programs and initiatives that grow and connect our teacher and donor audiences, and crafting marketing strategy for partnerships and campaigns throughout the year that particularly rally support for classrooms that have been systematically underfunded because of racial and socioeconomic inequities.

About the Role

Reporting to the Director, Teacher and Donor Marketing, the Marketing Campaigns Manager oversees several major one-day giving campaigns throughout the year that help us raise $20M in total for public school classrooms, as well as managing and ideating longer-running incentive programs that encourage growth and return among our audiences of public school teachers requesting the resources they need and individual donors funding those needs.

In this role you will:

  • Manage 4-5 marketplace campaigns every year, overseeing strategic planning to accomplish one-day big giving events that each rally $1M-$5M in funding for public school classrooms.
    • Leading a project team of cross-team contributors, ensuring strong collaboration across teams taking on distinct sub-projects like building the day’s digital marketing and content strategies, creating new product and design elements, and preparing for strong operational and customer support experiences.
    • Identifying strategic areas of focus for each of these major events, drawing on audience insights as well as an understanding of our marketplace to anticipate likely headwinds and areas of opportunity that can help us make each campaign a success.
    • Owning these campaigns from goal-setting to wrap-up, drawing on analysis from past campaign performance to ensure we’re consistently aiming for ambitious but achievable targets, and that we’re learning about our audiences through every event we do.
  • Maintain systems that help the Marketing team track and direct progress towards team-level quantitative revenue goals.
    • Aligning the Marketing team on our team’s event and push marketing calendar, owning periodic reviews of that calendar to flag gaps and areas of overlap.
    • Alongside our EVP, Marketing, leading effective team-wide reviews of numerical progress towards our quantitative marketing targets through tracking and analysis in Looker (our analytics tool) and Excel.
    • Owning dashboards that help clearly capture donor and teacher engagement on our site, sharing back trends with the wider team and managing periodic one-off analyses as needed to better understand areas of opportunity.
  • Pilot and maintain ongoing funding initiatives that grow and engage our teacher and donor audiences.
    • Examples of these today are our user referral program, birthday gift cards, and time-limited promo codes for new users
    • Overseeing existing automated incentive programs that run throughout the school year, tracking user engagement, managing budgets, and identifying opportunities for iteration and improvement.
    • Ideating, launching, and learning from new incentive programs that can drive key outcomes for teachers and donors, especially those that drive impact toward historically underserved classrooms.

This role may be perfect for you if:

  • You have at least 2-3 years in a project management-focused role, and you’re skilled at creating organized plans to accomplish ambitious goals.
  • You take equal joy in thinking creatively and coming up with fresh ideas as you do building well-organized plans in enacting them.
  • You’re empathetic and intuitive, and you’re quick with connecting with colleagues and understanding users’ goals.
  • You have a past track record with analysis from past roles or education, and you get excited about becoming an expert with internal analytics and business intelligence tools.
  • You’re excited to grow as a marketing generalist who can bring savvy and know-how across work that touches digital marketing, product, content, and community programs.
  • You are eager to drive racial equity in education, have comfort speaking about race personally and/or professionally, and you're up for the challenge of bringing a distinct equity lens to all projects.
  • You process new inputs quickly and are good at thinking on your feet when something takes an unexpected turn — you thrive in situations where you need to quickly brainstorm a Plan B (or C, or D).
  • You feel unstoppable when you have a good checklist and well-organized calendar.
  • You’re committed to our mission to support public school teachers and students, and you’re energized by sharing that passion with others.
