Portland, OR or Remote
Based in Portland, Ride Report is a small software company **accelerating the transition to a sustainable and efficient transportation system.
Government agencies around the world are using Ride Report to help manage the emergence of new and innovative forms of transportation – particularly shared micromobility such as electric scooters and bikes. Beyond our core tools, Ride Report’s Public Micromobility Dashboard, creates a vehicle to share out a valuable and novel dataset with a broader set of stakeholders while providing a global tracking system for the impact of micromobility. We've shown that with the right tools, public agencies can harness the power of micromobility to rapidly transform their transportation systems for the better.
If this sounds like the right fit, we'd love to hear from you!
About the role
Ride Report is a small company - as a Senior Software Engineer you’ll have the opportunity to work across many different systems and have a significant impact on the direction of the engineering team and broader company.
You will own the delivery of products start-to-finish, from writing database migrations to building and styling React components. You’ll be working independently at times, as well as collaborating with other engineers. We work closely with everyone at the company, and with our customers to design and build projects.
In the past couple months engineering projects have ranged from redesigning our public dashboard, to optimizing our metrics computation pipeline.
Our team is distributed across the United States, with a concentration in Portland, OR. You can work remote or with us at our office in Portland.
Tech Stack
- Python and Django on the backend, with a PostgreSQL database.
- React and Next.js on the frontend.
- AWS using Terraform, Docker and Kubernetes to manage infrastructure.
Skills & Experience
Because we're a small team, we're looking for engineers who are experienced in leading technical projects and making strategic decisions around the architecture of a production system.
Required
- Ability to make tradeoffs around engineering decisions and communicate them to the rest of the company. You know when to advocate for spending more time on the best solution, and when to compromise. You are proactive and comfortable when working amongst unknowns.
- Experience building new systems from the ground up, and improving existing ones as needed.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively. You’re happy to pair on a project and make the time for code reviews, but are equally able to take the lead on a project and work independently.
- Expertise in at least one area of software development. We expect you will continue to learn and contribute across all of our systems (data processing, frontend, infrastructure).
- Passionate about transportation in cities and a desire to work with our customers.
Nice-to-Have
- Experience building data processing systems.
- Experience managing Kubernetes. Terraform and Docker are also a plus.
- Experience working with modern web frameworks such as React or Next.js.
