We are looking for a UX Design Manager to lead our UX (User Experience) government web design team. This role is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the UX Design team. The team consists of Web Designers and UX Specialists creating government websites built in our in-house CMS. The team works closely with Project Management and implementation resources.
As a manager, you'll confidently lead and promote a high-performance culture emphasizing productivity, empowerment, quality, and goal attainment. On occasion, you will interface with other teams such as product, marketing, and other product families – gaining full exposure and strong influence across the products, processes, and people that make our CMS offering the best in its class. Candidates must bring a consultative approach and a "whatever it takes" attitude to ensure client success.
What You Will Do:
Lead our UX strategy across our client-facing team members to deliver quality outcomes to our clients
Manage, motivate, mentor, and encourage direct reports; advocate for the customer, encourage team members to do the same
Manage all design aspects of projects from start to finish
Manage UX Design backlog, ensuring timely completion of tasks assigned to you and others
Conceptualize the design strategy through the development of prototypes, proof of concept documents, wireframes, and strategic reports
Follow standards and provide documentation of key processes
Ensure to drive innovation across User-Centered Design practice
Prepare strategic decisions as well as trade-offs based on project priority
Translate some team's work into functionality, features, and content
Recommend best approaches for implementation of user experience
Identify improvement areas plus prospective competitive advantage for advanced research as well as exploration
Demonstrate the ability to communicate complex concepts clearly across different audiences and varying levels of the organization
Who You are and Skills You Bring:
Three to five years of experience as a UX Designer with experience as a Product Designer or Visual Designer – experience with government is a plus
At least two years experience building and leading Design teams where each member takes accountability and is empowered to do exceptional work
Strong leadership skills to ensure the team is comprised of highly motivated, appropriately trained, well-informed individuals who understand their responsibilities and the business as a whole
Continually re-think processes to improve workflow in own department and cross-functionally
Proven experience interfacing directly with clients to achieve consensus and conflict resolution
A firm understanding of user-centered design processes and interaction design principles
Understanding of web accessibility standards (WCAG 2.0, section 508)
Proficiency with web analytics tools (Google Universal Analytics, Google Tag Manager)
Proficiency using one or more wireframing tools (XD, Sketch, etc.)
Proficiency using a graphic design tool (XD, Photoshop, etc.)
Experience using project management tools (Wrike, Jira, Asana, Trello)
Candidates should be prepared to do a portfolio review
